My biggest issues are the obligations and the waste. No matter how strapped for cash you are, you're expected to get 'decent' gifts for everyone. Then of course you have to figure out what the hell to get and brave the shops to get them.

Nowdays I have serious issues with the waste. Excess packaging, cards, wrapping paper, unwanted gifts, excess food. Most of it is just thrown out and half of it wasn't neccessary in the first place.

I certainly enjoyed Christmas more when I was a kid. The family getting together and my cousins and I all showing off our new toys and playing with them and sleepless nights and surprises and LOTS of pressies (even if most were just stocking stuffers). 6 weeks of glorious Summer holidays.

Nowdays you know what you're gonna get, you sleep like a rock the night before. We don't have a Christmas Tree because we have other things to spend the money on and don't have space for one anyway.

I still like Christmas, but it's lost it's spark.

This year I am much more in the Christmas spirit. I believe it's because I don't have to do shopping, haven't had to go to the stores and deal with that mess, and don't have TV so I'm not subjected to all the commercials. I honestly feel that it's commercialism that is destroying the basic ideas of Christmas (for me...family, friends, good times, love, etc).
