I will tell this story again, but only because you asked nicely.

In 1996 there aired in Australia a series called American Gothic. I fell head over heels in love with this show about an evil sherriff (who was possibly the devil incarnate), his ill-concieved son and his son's ghostly sister.

Now, one day, in the TV programs, beside an article about this show (which CBS axed after the first season) was an ad for a flower called "Gemfire". I wrote some fanfic of this show (before I even knew what fanfic WAS) and added a new female character (admittedly a Mary Sue) named Glory Gemfire. (Online there is a colaborative virtual second and third season written by fans. It's a brilliant read if you love the show - and once again, a teenage female character - one that is alive and not a ghost - has been added - a VERY similar character to my Glory Gemfire).

When I first got online in late 1997 I took the name Stargazr (only being allowed an 8 character long username), after the Mother Love Bone song of the same name. But after not long I switched to the more unique Gemfire. THEN I went through a phase of spelling words with a Y where there was meant to be an I. That phase passed, but the alternate spelling of Gemfire stuck. I've been using the nick Gemfyre for over 10 years now.

For many years I was the only Gemfyre, but now the name seems to have been commandeered by a few others (including some emo-chick on MySpace - not that it matters, I don't use MySpace but I do own Gemfyre on LJ and in many other places), but I am the original Gemfyre.
