I smell smoke. I guess something is on fire nearby, no great surprise in this weather although this morning I was almost cold in bed.

Stepped on the ferns in the front garden yesterday in an attempt to get to the cats and discovered they are killer ferns from hell. My feet were bleeding and a huge chunk of some spiky thing got thoroughly lodged in my thong. I'm just worried I didn't get all the splinters out of my feet. My toe still hurts.

It could be the 5000 acres of Yanchep National Park (and surrounding areas) that is still burning and likely to keep burning for a while (roads are closed until Monday).

I had a closer look at them and I think the worst part was the dead ferns among the live ones, which have gone all dry and spiky. There aren't any actual thorns on the ferns.

I just took a whole bunch of photos in the garden and will likely post them today.

We have thick smoke all over the place here, despite being on top of a hill and generally well-ventilated.

Who knows, the cats seem to sleep in them quite contentedly.

I just spent about 15 minutes with a pair of tweezers, a poky thing and a bottle of peroxide and managed to dig out two teeny weeny splinters from my toe.
