I do that sometimes when I'm bored.

There are soooo many cases of "I've forgotten my password and/or changed the e-mail I signed up with, but I really want my account deleted."

There are also plenty of cases of "This account was created in 1999 and has never been used, I'd really like the name, why can't I have it?"

Now, do you reckon it would make sense for LJ to implement a system where all these people who have forgotten/lost passwords and e-mails to access and delete their accounts. It would free up a load of server space and a shitload of usernames that people probably want.

I can see problems with that.

I've lost my password should only be able to be retrieved by the already set email, and changing it without the password really breaks any sort of security in the password retrieval system.

as for usernames that 'haven't been used'. I guess if it's never been logged in to, that's ok, but there are people that don't post that still actively use their account. Heck, they don't even need to post comments to be using it so they can see friends locked posts. I doubt the people asking for the username can understand this though

I like that you can't delete a journal without a username and password. Otherwise, just anyone could go in and delete a journal.
