I slipped on the bathroom floor this morning and put my knee out again.

The ambos straightened my leg right out, and it wouldn't go back in.

They had to give me a general and then put it back in. Doctor tells me he experimented and it took very little effort to push it out again.

This will need surgery.

I'm feeling a bit fragile at the moment.

Holy crap honey - that's terrifying! Legs are so annoying when they go wrong. Since I've been going swimming my knee has been clicking & painful - I thought it was meant to help it! I hope you recover well.

If it's any consolation, my 23yo brother had his knee done last December (06) for the same reason as yours - and he's back playing A-grade hockey (he's a goalie) with no issues whatsoever. It took him about 6 weeks on crutches, and about 3 full months of physio, but after ten years of pain and repeated dislocations, aside from the scar, you'd never know he'd ever had an issue.

I had an ankle done 2.5 years ago (after 27 years of repeated sprains and crutches for 6 or more months of every year since turning 8 and getting thrown from a horse and dragged for 500m with my foot caught in the stirrup), and I've had no issues since then either. Reconstructions are brilliant - once the initial pain and immobility has passed, you won't know yourself. No more pain, no more being worried it might pop out at any given moment, no more being afraid to walk on uneven floors, steps, bathroom floors etc. It is very freeing indeed...

Don't put it off. You won't regret getting it done.

*hugs* feel better soon. I know you've got plenty of friends around you, but if you need anything, don't hesitate to email me - princesskessie at geemail (dot) com - I don't live too far away now you're in the 'burbs, and I'll help if I can...

:) Thanks.

I've never had surgery apart from a wisdom teeth removal and was a bit freaked out by the whole prospect. But now I've had a think about it and know it's the best option. Also, I'll have to talk to the orthosurgeon but I have a feeling that what I'll need done might even be possible via keyhole surgery.

Months on crutches will suck, but it'll be worth it in the long run.

I just hate this godawfully huge knee brace and the fact I can't bend my knee. Most furniture is designed for people who can bend both knees so it's pretty awkward right now.

Poo. :( *hugs*

Hopefully the surgery will make it better than new, though. Is it gonna hurt as much cost-wise or will you be covered, do you know?

I have private thank God. Problem is, I can't work, and if I can't work, I don't get paid, which sucks.

The brace-from-hell is gonna look damn sexy under the dress I intend to wear next week. And I'm gonna be all awkward needing a chair on stage and stuff, but like hell am I not going.
