Why does no-one ever come to karaoke anymore? It makes me sad.

Friday was really good too, you all missed out. Norbert is apparently on holiday so we got some woman called Joy. Joy had the hugest song list I have ever seen and played the cornet and tamborine, as well as being all around friendly. And we got around 4 songs each. AND the overall quality of the singers was surprisingly good.

I'm tempted to find a Saturday night place (Guildford Hotel or other) for next time I'm in Perth, seeing as I'm running low on time in lieu so Friday's aren't so easy to manage right now - who's in? And where at? I just want to sing (and show off a little) dammit.

And for you musical types - you know when you're singing along to something and you hit the high note and sometimes there's this wavering sound? What does that mean? That you nailed the note or that you screwed it or something else? I can memorise music and sing in tune, but I can't read music and I have no idea what all the musical terms mean exactly.

Women's voices have a break point, and if you have a waver during a high note, that's where your break point is.
Vocal exercises will even out that break point.

Yeah, I took voice lessons as a kid...LOL

But the sound doesn't happen if I'm singing on my own, only when I'm singing along to the song.

ah that is being ever so slightly out of pitch.

when I played clarinet in jr band, we had to all make sure we all matched, and we had to adjust the length of out instruments to match it.

Yup, seconded. Especially if you're reaching really high for the note--you're probably half a semitone flat.

Do you notice it happens less when you've been singing for a while? It's also a sign that you're not fully warmed up.

Are you staying out there indefinitely now, btw; or do you have an end date?

Contract ends on October 3rd and I'll probably take it seeing as I don't particularly like the job and hate Narrogin.

Also Matt may have a job in Perth soon - he's going for his second round interview on Friday (initial interview was last Saturday).

This does sound like fun, but yeah, work. Even in Perth I'm just too bloody tired to go out on a work night, usually. (I wonder if that will improve or get worse with new job? I fear the worst, really.)

bummer, I missed your post saying you were in town--I was half looking out for one cos I've been missing karaoke lately. (I have been hiding from the world a fair bit lately--doesn't help that work is really busy right now either; I used to have time to read a little LJ between orders, but I rarely get evrytihng done by the end of the day now :( And yeah, as you know my mobile is everywhere but near me and never has credit [back, vile telephone!] And I'm way behind on answering emails, but I think that's probably the best way to get in contact.)

I quite like the Guildford Hotel, and there's the added carrot of the competition too, heh.

cos karaoke places have zero to minimal exposure and nobody knows about them!
