The peace ends
Sep. 20th, 2006 08:02 pmI signed a lease today. I'll be beginning work within the fortnight. It would be sooner if I didn't have to take Lil to the vet in a week for follow-up.
I start paying rent from Friday. Anyone have a trailer and want to take a day trip to pretty Narrogin on the weekend or sometime next week?
I also need to acquire various items, like a fridge, wardrobe, washing machine, kitchen bench, internet connection, phone and other stuff.
We went to take a look at the place I applied for, so I could see how it was cleaned up. It was okay, cleaned up decently, had a fridge. Then the agent asked if I'd like to have a look at the similar place around the corner (it was now empty) before I committed to this one. Sure, why not?
We stepped into the other place and it was just like "woah". The other place had been abandoned by tenants that left the place a dump. This place had been vacated by a woman who moved into a larger house. She had maintained the place.
It lacks a fridge, but it does have
- Loads of hooks for hanging all my pictures.
- Air conditioning in the lounge.
- Nice blinds.
- Nicely painted, the lounge is an awesome purple shade.
- A gate.
- A shed.
- Mowed lawns.
- Decent garden.
So I signed the lease for the nicer place, I can find a fridge in the Quokka or something.

Front It's half of a duplex. I hope my neighbours are nice! There's a lavender and a kangaroo paw growing in the garden. Oh, and a gate to hide the car behind.
Lounge room LOVE the wall colour. Even though I like wood fires - they are too expensive, polluting and hard to light, so I'll use the gas.
First bedroom There are 3 bedrooms, the other two are very similar to this.
Kitchen Zero bench space, I'll have to get another bench for it from Ikea or something. But apart from that it's fine.
Bathroom Just a small affair, shower over the tub. But it's enough for me.
Backyard Hills hoist, mowed lawn, a shed and a covered area for the car. Can you believe this photo was taken through the window?

Date: 2006-09-20 12:42 pm (UTC)A coffee table and/or a small table to put the TV on (it's just a little TV).

Date: 2006-09-20 01:12 pm (UTC)Don't forget freecycle for stuff, there's lots around. On the wardrobe front, you could get a clothes rack to tide you over until you have some more money--they're about $20-$30 at Kmart. I got one for my sewing stuff, then when I moved out I used it until Luke made me my wardrobe. (now I am using it for sewing stuff again, heh.)
I have a box thing you can have for the tv if you like--Luke was gonna pull it apart for firewood, but it's pretty good still. It's just a simple thing, made of MDF, but it has a couple of shelves as well, so you can put VCR/DVD player under the TV. Space for tapes/DVDs, even, if you like.
Actually, come to think of it, we also have a small TV cabinet in the carport--so take your pick. ;)

Date: 2006-09-20 01:19 pm (UTC)I might be persuaded to come along for the ride, but obviously couldn't during the week because of work. Does your car have a towball? Cos mine is rather dodgy atm and prolly wouldn't survive the trip.

Date: 2006-09-21 11:41 am (UTC)In proper condition, my car would be great for pulling a trailer, but sadly it has a busted engine mount and badly needs the injectors cleaned. 'Tis on my "to be saved for" list. And like I said, Luke's trailer is covered, so it wouldn't fit much big stuff in. Prolly better to hire one.

Date: 2006-09-20 01:47 pm (UTC)K-mart for racks, gotcha. I was thinking I might prefer a bare rack anyway. I just need somewhere to hide my shoes away from Lil, her claws will grow back...
The box sounds like it could be useful. As does the cabinet. Heck, if you need to get rid of them I'll gladly take both. Storage space = good.

Date: 2006-09-22 12:11 pm (UTC)One thing though, your car is pretty little, so I imagine it can't pull huge loads (that's okay though, my mum's car can take down the big stuff next weekend).
