You know it's bad when...
Apr. 22nd, 2006 01:21 pmYou see a car towing a horse float on the side of the road. And the float has a hole in the side with a leg sticking out, and that leg ain't moving. It didn't look there'd been an accident. Weird
I decided at 7am that I would go on the Viveash walk this morning. It was lovely. I never realised there was so much open eucalypt woodland in that area. Apparently barn owls and tawny frogmouths have been seen there but we had no luck with them today. Bizarre bird of the day goes to the lone Sulfur-crested Cockatoo. Apparently they have bred in the area at the time, so he may have been a leftover from them. Sulfur-cresteds aren't native in the south-west but a few breeding colonies have established from escapes. There were also hundreds of corellas feeding on a field across the river.

I was going to pop in to Midland Gate after to get a few things, then I got to thinking and decided to go to the much nearer Midland Junction because I was just after fruit and veggies mainly, and I figured it would be a lot easier to find parking, which it was.
Oh man. I didn't even think spaghetti squash was available anywhere in Australia. But I just bought one grown in Manjimup! They have weird, exotic fruit and veggies, organic stuff, and it's not too bad a price. My haul was less than $20, which surprised me. Which was good because I also bought two Tasmanian Salmon fillets, which cost more than I'd hoped.

A bucket of valencia oranges - slightly flawed, so they were cheap
A bucket of mangoes - also cheap and slightly flawed. Currently consuming a mango in smoothie form. I was disappointed I didn't get to keep the metal buckets.
Some asparagus
A big fennel bulb - to go with the salmon
2 Sweet corn cobs
2 Zucchini
2 Tomatoes - nothing special about these, I just needed tomatoes
Rocket leaves
1 Spaghetti squash
1 Star fruit/Carambola
A bag of organic coloured carrots - orange, white and purple! Tres funky, I wonder how they'll taste.
