I discovered the nest of the wasps in our backyard.

Now I have to figure how to get rid of it.

I hate stingy insects. There was a bee hanging around the damp washing too.

spray it with wasp/hornet spray, and run like mad!

Eeeee! Nooo. I might get stung.

I don't think I've ever seen wasp/hornet spray available in Australia. I think they recommend calling a pest controller. I wonder if that's the tenants or landlords responsibility...

For a start, one needs to use their brain and spray at night time - when their metabolism is sluggish and they're actually *all* back in the nest. The best thing to use is surface spray, which is both strong, and prevents them from going back to the same location.

That's for paper wasps, which are the more common ones. Otherwise... you might to spray and run, even at night-time. Or you know... calling a professional.

Me and Mum just use the spray. :)

When we found a wasp nest in the tree right outside my window, there was actually a guy in the area (beekeeper?) who came and took it away for free. Unharmed.

He had a really nifty gas vacuum that knocked them out for transport.

Maybe check the local paper or look for bee keepers in your area and see what they suggest?

or just ask me. Is it a paperwasp nest? the kind that hang from a small stalk, under a branch? If so, then go out late at night after they're cold and resting, and smash it to bits with a powerful hose spray from as far as way as you can. Repeat as neccesary.

Oven cleaner. Dissolves the nest, kills the wasps and stops any living wasps that get hit by it from flying.

I've used it several times. It works great.

which type of Wasps...

european wasps are the harder ones, you literally have to spray and run and do that regularly over a day or so until they die then distroy the nest. otherwise just smash the nest
