So, the owner is some picky snob that didn't accept ANY of the applications. So he'd rather lose out on $230 a week than let the house to us or the other applicant. Riiiggght.

Ya know, I wish, if the owner is gonna be such a picky asshole that they'd let us know what they're looking for, rather than letting us waste 5 days putting in an application and waiting for a negative answer. Because you can't make multiple applications at once unless you have money to burn.

Ah well, the house hunt is still on. So much for moving before Christmas.

I remember all too well how much of a bastard it is to find a rental place .

Most of the places we got to rent wasn't only cos one of us was working.

When it was down to one person unemployed and a student we were screwed.

Moving in with a group of friends was our next step and that was a mistake that I won't get into .

Its alot harder now than it was when I was looking for a place , strange I would have thought it would be easier by now ,oh well :/.

Sorry Rambling

Good Luck *hugs*

Yeh it sucks - hey my real estate agent was a bit dodge about Suze & I when we moved to Star Street because I'd been working in the public service all of a month as a level 1, and Suze was a student/yoga teacher, so we just talked Suze's income up. They were also dodge cos I had a lease on a flat that had 6 months left to run on it, and I had to put that RE agent as my ref because I'd been there 2 years already.... but somehow we managed to pull it off and now I'm a star tenant, and the house is solely in my name (even though technically I have two housies, i shall add one of them at least to my next lease)... my RE agent has no probs with me except for my recalcitrant tendency to refuse to mow the lawn.

It's tricky, especially if someone in the house isn't working. Of course the way around that is to have the lease in one name primarily and have anyone else down as an additional tenant. I might say though that renting privately can be either wonderful or utterly utterly dreadful (the house with shoddy wiring that no one would even look at comes to mind...and did I mention the rotted floor boards....) at least with Real estate agents it's a little easier to *ahem* force them to hold up their end. Then of course there's that other thing that being that at least if you have the hitler of landlords they have to deal with them not you.

Now we don't have what you'd call a very good real estate agent, they mucked up the rent the first month they had the place and tried to evict us...why because some idiot had put the monthly rent down as fortnightly. It's breath taking that no one questioned the fact that the rent was then about double what it should have been! Instead they tried to throw us out. Then again on the other hand they got the cupboard door and the tap in the shower fixed (both of which would fall down, or fly off at the slightest provocation because they weren't attached to anything, no hinges, and no thread left on the tap spindle...the landlord thought this was a minor problem but then she didn't have them fall on her feet three times a week.) in a week after our lovely (and she is lovely) landlord had kept me waiting 4 years!

Don't give up Cossie just aim a little lower see if you can find some where a bit cheaper, even if it's a short lease. Just something to get you some rental history. The more expensive the weekly rent the less likely they are to let just anyone have it, not that you're just anyone but you know what I mean. It's a pain I know but it's just one of those things.
