Another of those interesting memes.
Sep. 8th, 2005 07:28 pmLook at your LJ interests list. If you have fewer than 50 interests, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five interests, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five interests, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly what it is about these things that interests you so much.
Anti-Smoking - I hate smoking, with a passion. It's toxic. It stinks. It affects people who aren't at all interested in inhaling poison or stinking all day. It pollutes. It's an industry rife with corruption. Land is cleared to grow tobacco rather than something more useful. If I had my way I'd ban it. I also created/moderate a community called
anti_smoking which is pretty successful if I do say so myself. :) Lately we've had heaps of people that have quit or want to quit join up, which is awesome.
Birding - It's a reflex these days, anytime I'm outdoors I'm automatically birdwatching. At the moment it's a large chunk of my job too.
Cats - The cat. The most perfect animal nature made. And they're so cute and fuzzy and purry too. I miss my kitty.
Dean Koontz - I've read a ridiculous number of his books. And although they are chronically formulaic I can't get enough!
Eternal Champion - Michael Moorcock's Sci-Fi/Fantasy series. I like Elric especially. The Eternal Champion is essentially one being on many different planes of existence, and they pretty much save the world in one way or another.
General Knowledge - Yep, have lots of it. Hence my love of quiz shows and Trivial Pursuit.
Homm4 - Heroes of Might & Magic 4. One of my favourite games. It's just awesome, I can't wait to play it again when I get home.
Les Miserables - One of my favourite musicals (the other being Phantom of the Opera). The music is great, but the story is sooo sad, I cry everytime someone dies (except Javert) and especially when they come back at the end as ghosts. *blubs*
Multiverse Theory - This links in with Eternal Champion. Multiverse Theory is used in the series but I'm not sure who came up with it in the first place. I kind of came to my view of it on my own. Pretty much everything is possible because it is happening on some plane of existence. And some beings manage to discover how to travel between the planes - sometimes unwillingly.
Old Skool Grunge - *dons cordies, Doc Martens, flannie and LOSER shirt* Malfunkshun, Mudhoney, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Tad, The Fastbacks, Beat Happening. All that old grunge from before grunge went mainstream. Don't think I don't like Pearl Jam or Nirvana however - they rock too and closely link into the incestuous family tree of grunge.
Red Eye - *bounce!* *points to icon* The best drink on earth. Sweet, refreshing, bouncy goodness. A meal in a bottle! Half the price of Red Bull, tastes a squillion times better, has more cool stuff in it AND it's made in Australia. I should do an ad for these guys!
Seti - The Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence. I found out about this at my first lecture at uni. Some guy had the brilliant idea of instead of using a huge supercomputer to crunch through hours of radio signals to look for patterns - it would make more sense to use lots of little computers - the computers of home users (or buisnesses, or servers). Millions of people have joined, giving the project far more power than any single computer. You sign up and get a program which can be run as a screensaver while your computer idles, or it can just run in the background all the time using a small amount of resources. Via the internet it sends a packet of radio information which the program proceeds to crunch through and look for patterns that may indicate intelligent life in space sending signals. When the computer finishes a packet you send it back for the guys who know what they're looking at to look at it and you get sent another packet. Fun! Simple! Intruging!
The Dark Crystal - One of my childhood and all time favourite movies. Did you know it was the first movie made which featured entirely fantasy creatures on a fantasy world? It's just that perfect combo of whimsy and excitment and scariness.
Trivia - A bit like general knowledge. But I regard trivia as knowing obscure things that really aren't useful for any purpose other than quiz shows and Trivial Pursuit... and trivia channels on mIRC.
Zoos - Animals! Conservation (at the good ones anyway)! What's not to like about the zoo? Australia's zoos are doing an awesome job in conservation efforts, educating the public and giving their animals the most comfortable lives possible under the circumstances. I shall become a member of Perth Zoo again when I go home and I intend to visit often and have communion with the birds and tigers.
