My air-con has its own ecosystem
Apr. 30th, 2005 05:22 pmOr it did have, it's relatively clean now. No wonder it stopped working, the amount of shit stuck in it. Pat took it out and gave it a good clean out.
A dead frog was the main culprit (also the source of a foul smell outside my room, which curiously did not penetrate to inside the room. I also think something has died underneath the dongas). It had stopped the fan spinning. It was a bitch to remove but Pat eventually removed a panel and out it came.
A couple of small mud dauber wasp nests were removed.
A shitload of rust was brushed out.
A large thing like a rock, that was the nest of some bug and filled with maggots was also removed after some struggle.
My air-con now works again, and is crap free, until the animals move in again. Someone could get rich selling frog/bug-proof air-cons up here.
Day off today, spent it just at the Obs relishing in doing nothing, lying around, listening to music. But really I got quite a bit done. Some paperwork that's been waiting to be done for ages, slightly tidied my room. Watched the old 80's PotO clips on the DVD and pissed myself laughing over their awfulness.
Last night was Chris's birthday so we went out to a place called Cafe Carlotta for dinner. I don't think I'll go back.
- The music was too loud (and crap). We asked for it to be turned down many times and it would be turned down a smidge then turned up not long after.
- The food took forever to arrive.
- My vongole pasta had chilli in it. I have no idea if the dish tasted good or not because my mouth was burning and I couldn't taste a thing, which made the meal less than enjoyable.
- They didn't have garlic bread. They did have a house bread, but it had chilli in it.
- I got slugged a corkage fee. $2.75. Apparently everyone that drinks something brought in has to pay the fee. Okay, it would be nice however:
- If I was informed of this beforehand, I would have drunk my money's worth. I was offered some from some friends there and so didn't go guzzling all of their drink.
- If the (non-alcoholic) drink I was drinking cost more than $2 a bottle.
- If the meal wasn't so full of chilli I had to drink after every mouthful.
Ah well. Shit happens.
Back to work tomorrow. Weather is going up and down and humid and dry, soon it should settle down to proper dry season weather.
