We had one pretty good April Fool's joke here.

We arrived home from the lakes and I realised Chris had cleared off the sightings board for April's sightings. On the board was the 6 redshanks seen by our Finnish visitors and a red goshawk, seen at the birdbaths.

The red goshawk is Australia's rarest raptor. I don't believe it's even on the Broome list, although weird and wonderful things do show up and some have shown up at those very birdbaths.

Ricki's comment was that she wanted to see good photos and see the BARC report written up right away. I commented that if Chris had seen it he would photos and is probably working on the report.

Of course it was all bullshit. And I half fell for it. I wouldn't have fully believed it until I saw photos but the fact that it was April Fool's Day slipped my mind totally.

Ah yes, and tourists. Here I was thinking, "Broome, lots of Japanese tourists." How wrong I was. Most of the foreign visitors here at the BBO are from northern Europe. The Netherlands, Finland and such. At the moment we have 2 guests from Finland. They each have a pair of Swarovski binoculars and a scope of the same brand. They each have 2 Nikon cameras, one equipped with a lens so damn huge it reminds me a bucket tacked onto the camera front. Apparently the travelling and photography is "Just a hobby." Their camera set up almost made Chris cry. teehee
