Sep. 9th, 2004 10:09 pmMy brother in law's dog died today.
I wonder how he and my sister are going to explain it to thier 2 year old son.
It's the kinda thing... you don't wanna lie... but you don't wanna tell the truth either.
And it's my sister's birthday tomorrow. What a sucky thing to happen the day before.

I guess it's best to be honest, and add that you're hopeful there is an afterlife for pets. Kids are surprisingly resilient. I think. I'm half awake.

Date: 2004-09-09 11:33 pm (UTC)i hope they tell him the truth. adults usually over or underestimate what kids can handle but they can get some really bizarre complexes about things if they feel a bit misguided about something ;)
it has made me wonder how Josh's aunty with the three small kids (aged 8, 5 and 2) explained to them that their 17yo cousin was dead. The oldest one seemed to handle it all right, the middle one seemed to have some clue what was going on but not a full comprehension, the 2yo didn't appear to have much of a clue. so.
