I saw the snake!!
Sep. 3rd, 2004 01:23 pmWandered around that last part of Herdsman today, I have now been along all the circling pathways. One day I might endevour to do the lot in one day. That'll be quite a trek.
Well. First thing of interest was a great egret that landed near a drain. As I watched it stalked through the long grass (and I was expecting some tiger snake to grab it) and pounced and emerged with a decent sized skink in its beak (about 20cm long I reckon). Poor skink wriggled and squirmed as the egret swallowed it whole. Then the egret went to the water and had a drink. I reckon I'd need something to wash it down after eating a live lizard. It then went back to the grass and proceeded to catch two more skinks and eat them. Not sure if it caught more, I continued walking around then.
I heard there were bird hides on this side of the lake and I was not mistaken. Two hides. And from the second I finally saw a live, wild tiger snake! Lucky it wasn't on the side of the path, so it posed no threat to me. This snake was swimming across the lake towards the reeds. I was amazed how close some of the ducks got to it but I didn't hear a loud quacking and splashing so I guess the snake wasn't bothered with duck for lunch. That was just cool, FINALLY I see a wild snake.
Oh, and the weather? DIVINE! I wonder if I'll wear a skirt tonight...

Date: 2004-09-03 07:30 am (UTC)I don't want a tiger snake too near to me because it's like, deadly poison and all. But a python would make a neat pet.
