I saw and heard Red-Capped Parrots at uni today. That was good. :)

I had a really weird, vivid dream last night (aren't all my dreams weird and vivid?)

In my dream I was actually about to write an LJ entry on what was happening then I woke up. I was about to write in my dream...

I have a volcano in my bedroom.

And I did. A small volcano had appeared in my bedroom, Paracutin style. It was about 50cm tall and if I looked into it I could see glowing magma within.

The first day it spewed tar and I frantically went to find receptacles to collect the tar so as to not completely destroy my room. It stopped doing that as night fell. Then I woke up during the night to it spewing a sulfurous, yellowish/orange goop. I woke up mum and dad and asked them if there were any boxes I could use to block this flow and dad said he'd thrown out all the large boxes.

It was so real. I was worried, but dealing with the prescence of a volcano in my room. The house wasn't burning down, it was just making a big mess.

I woke up and checked that there wasn't a volcano in my room (of course there wasn't) and then started thinking about the dream and all if it's geological impossibilities.

1. This volcano was in my bedroom. My bedroom is on the second storey. No, there was no base of the volcano on the bottom floor.
2. It was a 50cm high, full on stratovolcano, not a cinder cone. 99% of cinder cones aren't even that small.
3. It spewed tar? Volcanoes don't emit tar. Maybe it was the cool, sodalite lava like Ol Doinyo Lengai and not tar at all? Still, it wasn't melting the plastic esky and washing basket I collected it in. And yes, I was collecting volcanic deposits in a plastic washing basket, and yes, the washing basket had holes in it like they usually do.
4. It conveniently emitted one substance for a day, then changed to a different substance.
5. I have never heard of volcanoes emitting something like the goop it was in my dream. It reminded me more of an algal bloom or a slurry pit than a volcanic emission.
6. This nasty, sulfurous stuff was quite effectively being held back by cardboard boxes.
7. Actual magma never came out (I think I was worried that it would do so however). I could just see a glowing red flow within the cone.

I really must visit a volcano. This isn't my first bizarre dream about one.

That's still more linear and straightforward than most of my dreams.

i've been to mount vesuvius. it was really neat! but i used to have nightmares about a small volcano erupting in the basement of my parents' house. but only after i read my 3-2-1 contact issue with the section on pompeii in it.

sounds less like a volcano (even though it obviously looked very much like one) and more like some kinda weird pustulent sore. if i was into dream interpretation (which im not coz i dont dream much and i suck at that kinda thing anyway) my literal interpretation would be you have to deal with or are dealing with something interesting :P

It used to be that I often dreamt about amusement parks.

But lately volcanoes have come to the fore.

Maybe it's just me dreaming about things I'm really interested in and places I'd love to visit?

*shrug*

Perhaps one day we will be able to harness the powers of science to the extent that there will be enough free power to support something as luxurious and indulgent as owning a bonzai volcano.
I'll buy one.
