There are still places available for the pelagic trip from the Hillarys Boat Harbour on Sunday June 27th. The boat leaves from outside AQWA at 7am sharp and we aim to return about 3:30pm. The cost depends on the number of people ($75 if 23 people; $65 if 30 people).

This is your chance to see albatross and petrels up close.

I currently have less than 20 people, and at that number the trip will have to be cancelled.

I've already put my name down but I don't want it to be cancelled due to lack of interest. If you want to come along reply here and I'll give you Frank O'Connor's contact details (he's organising the trip).

I've been on one pelagic (1996), and one whalewatching non-pelagic (it was in the San Juan Islands, right at the edge of the US and Canada, 1993).

So far, my cetacean list is as follows:

Phocoena phocoena / Harbor Porpoise
Phocoenoides dalli / Dall's Porpoise
Orcinus orca / Orca Whale
Balaenoptera acutorostrata / Minke Whale
Eschrichtius robustus / Gray Whale

The first four were on the same trip (San Juan Islands) ... it's something I'll never forget. As for the pelagic (which was out of Los Angeles), I'm pretty sure I saw shearwaters and storm-petrels, but I don't remember the species at all, and therefore haven't listed them. Lots of sea lions in the harbor, of course ... seals and sea lions are easy to find on the California coast.

I was checking for Perth Pelagic trip reports for the month of June, and came up with the following results:

27 June 1997
28 June 1998
18 June 2000
17 June 2001
30 June 2002

Here's hoping for a successful trip ... and prions!

I have been on a whalewatching trip off Coffs Harbour on the eastern side of Australia. It was a shocking day and only 3 people on the boat weren't puking (apart from the crew) - they were myself, my b/f and his dad.

We only saw a few humpbacks then, it was a bit of a dud.

I've seen loads of sea lions, fur seals and bottlenose dolphins from the shore and on trips not far from the shore and I got to see dugongs in Shark Bay - that was awesome.

yeah, but it was still a good boat ride, and i'd go with you on this one too except for the cost. I'm not that interested in going!
and i'll just have to look at all your photos when you get back :)
