i used to swim at woodies and we would go muscling on the inside of the marina. I wouldn't eat them now knowing how bad the sound is for pollution
the erosion there is terrible and when the southerlies come in, it is awful to swim there. Once upon a time though it was a very popular swimming beach. most have moved up to the ammo dump though
we used to go fishing off the jetty in the marina and we would get cuttlefish and the occasional occy, yellow tail, herring, (trumpeter and blowies) leather jackets and stuff
I recall much of the actual point was closed of for environmental protection. they had protected Rottnest Island Cypresses there.
I would not be surpised if around the ammo dump there are some interesting spots too, particularity below the jetty. there are less leather jackets there and at one stage there were heaps of bonito but they don't venture so far in any more. Guardfish can also be found there. there was a sea-lion I believe that hovered around the jetty for years., but that was before the old ammo dump jetty was destroyed in a storm (over 20 years ago)
if you go further up to coogee beach, around there on land sand gropers are easily found, in the water Blue rings are often found. I have known of one there but a friend who used to live at the caravan park said that there was at least one every summer.
