I'm sure I've told this story before. In 1996 an awesome series screened called American Gothic. Alas, American TV couldn't deal with a main character possibly being the devil reincarnate - or something - and axed it after 20 episodes/1 season.
So, I continued the story in my own fic. This was before I even knew what fanfic was. Seems I wasn't the only one - there is a rather good virtual second and third season of the series online written by various fans.
In my version I added a new character - essentially a Mary Sue - and her name was Glory Gemfire. I'd gotten the Gemfire name from the TV guide. On the opposite page to an article about American Gothic was an ad for a flower called Gemfire.
A couple of years later I went through a phase where I was spelling everything with a "y", so my name briefly became Belynda and Gemfire became Gemfyre. I now spell my real name correctly, but Gemfyre stuck - it's been my main online nick for about 11 years now.
