[Error: unknown template qotd]

I was mucking around on the computer after my sister's birthday gathering (I'm sure I've told this tale before). Matt ICQs me saying "A plane has flown into the World Trade Center" I replied, "Oops". I had no idea what the World Trade Center was, I just thought some person in a light aircraft had been careless.

Then I remember reading the MLPTP and someone (was it SkyeSurfer) had a post "OMG THE TOWERS!" or something. She was in New York. Now, I'm not sure if she posted before or after my brother rang and told us to turn on the TV.

I remember seeing the first tower go. It was like a banana unpeeling. We were all watching TV until about 1am when I finally went to bed. I was also refreshing the TP over and over and the posts just multiplied exponentially. It was amazing.

The next day it was all anyone could talk about at uni. A few American students talked about how they had to remove themselves from all the doom and gloom and some ended up singing "It's Raining Men" just to ease the tension (which of course offended some people - but hell, you have to laugh to keep from crying). Everyone bought the newspaper - their own little piece of history. I bought it for about a week after. Then I'd had enough. No more. I must have seen the footage 200 times by then.

I'm still amazed by the logistics of the thing. It's no secret that I'm fascinated by disasters of both the natural and man-made kind, and this was a doozy.

And despite it all, life goes on. Isn't it amazing? Yesterday I found myself giggling at a few macros made about the event.

gemfyre: (Lay off the drugs man)
The last few days I've gone into the toilet at work and thought, "What the heck is that smell!? That towel now REALLY needs cleaning." The smell is overpowering, and quite unpleasant, at least to me.

Turns out it's the bloody toilet 'freshener'. "Freshwater and mint", one wonders what 'freshwater' is supposed to smell like. Surely not like this. I'd prefer the smell of farts thanks.

So, I wrote a story, a bit of fanfic. Some of you may have read it. In my mind is forming a sequel of sorts, but I want my facts straight first.

So. We have the scenario. 15 year old girl, promising ballet dancer, has a psycho wail on her legs with a sledgehammer. Afterwards, for about 3 weeks, she's kept drugged up on painkillers and sedatives, probably gets some minimal topical care for open wounds. But the broken bones - they fuse back where ever they are after the smashing.

Okay, so my questions.
1. Is this survivable? - I'm pretty confident it's a yes. She'd possibly die of shock if it wasn't for being drugged up to the eyeballs. She's escaped things like infections and septaceamia.
2. How would the legs look?
3. Would she be able to use the legs again? Would she limp? Have a cane? Walk on crutches? Or be fully wheelchair bound?

Maybe someone is a doctor or knows a doctor that would know what would result from these kinds of injuries if left untreated (I'd be guessing that if treated right away, after weeks of traction and casts, then months and months of physiotherapy, she might be able to walk again at least - but of course, she's not rescued for about 3 weeks, is this enough time for bone and muscle to fuse and heal back in all the wrong places?)

It's a pretty gory scenario really. But the follow in is pretty inspirational, for me at least.
