Manning the fort
Jun. 18th, 2008 02:46 pmIt will always happen sometime within the first few days. You're left alone to attend to things yourself. Of course, only being within the first few days you're still learning everything yourself and you get dumped in headfirst, but I think I'm getting better at it.
I do now have a list of tasks accumulating as well as random, "OMG I need this typed yesterday!"'s from the boss. I think I'll have a tinker on his laptop and see if I can fix up this network file that isn't showing what it should be showing. I'll be a hero if I can fix that. Why is it, that even though you know comparatively little about computers, you end up at places where you are the computer expert right away?

The lunch is a lie
Jun. 18th, 2008 03:47 pmNo, really, I AM getting work done. Honest. There just isn't really much on my plate yet.
Yes, lunch. Apparently I'm meant to get an hour lunch? Hah. If I'm bringing my own I heat it up in the staff kitchen and eat it at my desk while continuing to answer the phone if it rings. I guess if I was buying lunch elsewhere I'd be able to piss off for the full hour, but it feels bad buggering off when I'm needed.
I feel a bit like Pepper Potts, unfortunately my boss isn't a sexy superhero, just a boring old barrister. There's this guy and he needs sorting out, and it's my job to do it.
