They're not awfully common in the metro area - mind you I was at Burns Beach.

Why was I at Burns Beach? Well, I've had an interesting day.

On Friday I was glancing through the local newspaper and saw a vague job ad for "Environmental Casuals. No experience required. Whiteman Park". Sounded interesting so I called up. Turns out they're an organisation that does plantings and weeding and surveys and things. The casuals get called up whenever they need extra manpower. Paid work. So I signed up.

Saturday I get a call asking if I can work on Monday - no problem I say.

I was meant to start Job Search Training again (for the fourth damn time, at least the lady understood how annoying that must be and just signed me up for the refresher). Of course, I couldn't attend because I had a shift.

The work was great. Started at 7:30am but it is just 10 minutes down the road. Drove up to Burns Beach in the bus and planted around 1000 plants in the dunes. There were 4 of us, and the holes are dug with a motorised auger so it's quite quick. We were done by midday. The usual time to finish is 3-4pm.

As we were driving back to Whiteman Park my mobile rings. It's Jeff from CALM. Apparently I was the preferred candidate (in his words, "you won") and was offered the choice of the Narrogin and Merredin positions. I chose Narrogin of course.

Yes, that's right folks. I got a job working for CALM. A reallyo trulyo job in my field that actually pays properlyl. It's a year long contract and I will have to move to Narrogin. At least it's a lot closer than Broome. I can drive to Perth for weekends without too much trouble. Biggest issue is finding a house there where I can take my kitties.

I'm now waiting to find out if I have to bother with JST at all. Seeing as I have a job and all. Two actually. Both in my field! BOOYAH!

And someone is practicing trumpet or trombone or something next door and they suck.
