Meet Lil

Lil was meant to arrive sometime today but there was a change of plans and my sister-in-law delivered her last night.

Lil's owner recently died, and her ex-husband was just going to have Lil put down. She's 12 and has lost most of her ears to cancer. My sister-in-law wouldn't have a bar of that. She would have taken Lil in herself despite the fact that her family already consists of - a husband, 2 sons, 2 cats, a cattle dog/border collie cross, a rainbow lorikeet, a few ducks and chickens, a couple of fish tanks and I believe a mouse or two. But she knew I was thinking of adopting an older cat, so she called me and Lil became mine.

She's very affectionate. Gill (my sis-in-law) warned me that she may not like Matt much because she wasn't too good with males (blame ex-hubby), but she's fine with him so far.

She's all about the claws. When she sits on your lap she kneads and for a 12 year old cat she has kitten needles for claws. I'm gonna get her a scratching post and hope she uses it and that it helps. Maybe I'll have to trim them if they're too much trouble.

She's still getting used to the place and often hides behind or under things when she's not sitting on laps. She hasn't used the litter tray yet, I just moved it from out in the open to under the futon (the floor is slate). There's no room in the laundry for it. Anyone have any tips for that? Apparently she is litter trained, but this is a new tray, with a possibly new substrate in a new place.

She was an indoor/outdoor cat but I think I'll keep her in here, better for the cat, better for wildlife, and probably also better for Greycat, I wonder how he'll react when he realises there's a new cat inside now. I hope it's not bad. I still put out food for him.
