Once I get back to Perth I'm gonna get in my little Daewoo and be on completely bitumen roads with loads of traffic and lights and stuff. I'm not gonna know myself. I'm getting quite used to driving on dirt roads in minibuses and landrovers. The Troupie just got a major service so it's not a lot nicer to drive and the second gear stick seems to move a lot easier too.

I went on an errand into town this arvo to get a bunch of hardware stuff (Greencorps kids fixing up our top loos, bloody termites). As I left town I saw half the sky had become a lovely shade of dark grey with lightning streaking through it rapidly followed by rumbles of thunder.

The rain was falling right over the dirt road, not too heavy but still, wet. So I locked the wheels and changed into 4WD - not sure if I needed it but not taking any chances. And went for it! Much fun, pity I messed up the car again, after we spent so much energy polishing it.

Also the morning while hacking a path to the rain guage I learned why you wear gloves while using heavy wood handled instruments. Lost a nice round patch of skin on my thumb where it blistered and peeled before I even realised what had happened. Much swearing as I swabbed it with alcohol. At least now it's safely behind a band-aid.

It's always great when you start to barrack for the bad guy.

Which Villain Character Are You?

"Step into my parlour said the spider to the fly" - Lucas Buck
"Hark! She is singing to bring down the chandelier!" - Erik the Phantom
