Oh look, I'm the same as everyone else
Dec. 3rd, 2004 08:27 am You scored as alternative. You're partially respected for being an individual in a conformist world yet others take you as a radical. You have no place in society because you choose not to belong there - you're the luckiest of them all, even if your parents are completely ashamed of you. Just don't take drugs ok?

Birds!! - but this time in cages
Dec. 3rd, 2004 02:48 pmToday was my first day at Fauna Rehab since 1999. They've completely rearranged the place since then and have a lot more mammals around the place. But essentially things are still the same. The recipe for maggie mince is the same. I made a batch of it, I forgot how much fun it was. That's some ripe mince they use, it's made from offal mostly, the maggies and other meat eaters devour the stuff. The ducks no longer have their pellets wet down. Peanut the bad tempered euro died a couple of years ago.
Highlights of the day
- Hand feeding a baby maggie, handfeeding is one the best things about working there.
- Hand feeding baby butcherbirds (with half a mouse, yes, I did the chopping).
- Feeding the ducks and cygnets. All the ducks are now kept in a large pen with a pond. There are soooo many of them and they all scamper around you clambering for food. You can just pet them as they eat. They're hillarious to watch as they dabble in any available mud and climb into the drink bowls for a swim (needless to say duck feed and water bowls get filthy quickly).
- Baby black-faced cuckoo shrikes. Just because they're noisy and I love 'em.
- Meeting Lovey, the temperamental sulfur-crested cockatoo.
- Just seeing the two southern boobook owls and tawny frogmouths that they have.
- Finding a dead magpie in the long maggie cage. Don't know what the cause of death is yet but he wasn't long dead when we found him because there were no ants around or anything.
Then went to the shops and tried on a bunch of dresses from the clearance place. As expected the sizings are demented. I tried on dresses that were all technically my size but only one fit - it cost $2 so I bought it. It's very wenchy.
I was gonna go to the gym today but I just don't have enough time before karaoke. I'm home and finally eating lunch now.
