gemfyreTopics lately have had very little relevance to my posts, they're just from songs in my head at the moment. Harder To Breathe seems to be one of the songs of the moment.
Well, a month has passed and it doesn't really feel that long. The days blur into one another, some go really slowly, some go fast. Some are boring, some are bloody hard, sweaty work and some involve a lot of birdwatching and stuff like netting which is what I came here for. A vague storm went over this afternoon, only a few spits of rain. I went down to the viewing platform when the tide was technically too high to view waders well and watched a few flocks off a distance. It was also interesting to see a solitary Whimbrel stay on a rock right in front of the platform. I just sat there for a while and listened to the waves and the waders peeping and the occaisional roll of thunder. THAT is what I came here for. I also washed the troupie today and did admin work, which isn't what I came for but nothing I didn't expect and it makes those lovely moments feel all the more worth it.
Tomorrow I go into town to get my F endorsement happening. I have orders from Ricki to "Take a scope and do a lap around the sewer ponds." Tough job this. Now before you go "ewww" understand that the sewer ponds are one of the best areas for birding in Broome town. Yellow wagtails are commonly seen there as well as loads of ducks, waders and various other water birds.
I also helped with some mist netting this evening, first just being scribe then handling two brown honeyeaters and banding and taking measurements - I have to do a lot more of this (both mist and cannon net catches) to get experience and hell, maybe even work towards a netting licence. I do prefer the cannon netting, it's a lot more exciting and the birds are easier to handle - unfortunately it does have a higher risk of fatalaties but as much as possible is done to prevent that.
Yep, that's about it for the day. I've kinda decided not to post if I don't have anything exciting to report. Yesterday was rather boring.
