That was great
Jan. 26th, 2005 09:53 pmNedlands foreshore wasn't half bad. We still had a decent view of the "crackers", bit missed the stunt fliers and all that. At least we got front row seats and weren't crowded out all day long. And going to the toilets was a matter of 5 minutes rather than an hour or more.
We ate plenty of lamb like good little Aussies. And waved the flags that were left behind where we sat, and sang bad renditions of Aussie songs.
I saw a Southern Boobook Owl!! Just sitting in a tree by the barbie. Awesome. Also got bee-eaters and a rufous night heron among other things.
Played bocce, got thrashed as usual.
Realised that Australia Day is bad for it's environmental impact on Pelican Point during a time when there are waders there - all the kite surfers and such figure the restricted zone rules don't apply to them - and there were A LOT of kite surfers, all through the restricted water area and even landing on the restricted beach - there's a reason the point is fenced off. *sigh*
This morning at Wellard Wetlands was also cool. I missed the damn Baillon's and Spotless crake but it was pretty good anyway.
