That title will make sense later in this post.

A Composition Called "Today"

RSPCA

I did recievals. I like doing recievals because I can do it on my own and don't have to battle with other workers who do things a different way to how I do them. I know everything I have to do, it takes about 3 hours, then I can go home.

There were 2 kittens in one cage. A grey and an orange one. Little cuties, but pretty much at the age where they can be adopted.

In a pen on the other side was a mama kitty, with 5 kittens. At first I was like "huh?" because this cat had one large kitten and 4 tiny ones. I asked one of the staff and learned her story. The larger, older kitten is hers. Then they found a very young kitten (at the moment its eyes are open but its ears are still closed) and figured they may as well put it with the nursing mother. Worked great. Then a day or so ago they found THREE newborn kittens dumped. These guys haven't even opened their eyes yet. They got put with mama kitty too who immediately started licking them and fed them. So she gave birth to one kitten and fosters 4 others. She's a lovely cat too. Cats always become such tarts when they have kittens, she was being all smoodgy and purring loudly (I think the purring thing is half to reassure the kittens though). They were all unbelievably cute and made me go squee.

There was also a lovely dark tortishell and another cat with beautifully ticked fur. But all the guys in recievals were cute - as always.

Much poo in bedding and puke and all that fun stuff. It's quite satisfying cleaning it all up and giving the kitties a clean house again.

The volly & staff Christmas party is December 22nd. I think I'll go.

Home

Then I came home and twiddled my thumbs for a bit. Matt bought me a chocolate fondue kit (with a recipe book) and a DVD of 10 Things for Christmas. Very cool. We don't have a DVD player yet but EVERYONE needs a copy of 10 Things. :) Watched a bit of this Euro Trip movie in Matt's room. The chick that played Dawn in Buffy was in it (no, this is not what I'm talking about in the title). Then took Matt to the airport and paid ridiculous parking fees for about 20 minutes parking ($3.50 - what a fucking rort). Hope he has a safe trip. He shall return on New Year's Eve.

Birdbirdbird

I then decided to take a wander through Garvey Park and do a spot of birdwatching. Not much unusual around the lakes. Loads of darters on the river. I figured I'd walk along the river to the wetlandy area and try for rails or crakes, figuring I wouldn't have much luck considering the abundance of cyclists/runners/people with dogs on and off the lead. I got to an area with a pond and a large amount of mudflats, expecting but not seeing moorhens or swamphens. I took a look at the footprints in the mud to see what had been by and looked up as a cyclist went by. When I looked at back at the mudflat I saw what I thought was a wader dash out. It seemed to be bobbing so my first thought was Common Sandpiper, but it would have been kinda weird to see ANY wader there. I took a look through my binos and what did I see? A Buff-Banded Rail! Feeding. Not going "Yipe! She saw me!" and hiding a second after I spotted it. I watched it feeding in the mud for a good 5 minutes. They're quite pretty birds once you get to have a good look at them. Eventually it got spooked by someone with a dog passing by but it was delightful to be able to watch it for so long.

Sushi

Then I considered dinner. I was going to pop into Leederville and grab a squid legs and some deep fried feta *still drools at the thought* or check out the sushi in Kalis, because I perpetually crave sushi. But I was intercepted! Across from Brumby's is a new Japanese takeaway place! I was about to buy a combo sushi tray when the guy behind the counter gave me the sell on this large bowl of stuff, beef, chicken, prawn, egg, some squid salad and some seaweed salad, all on a bed of sushi rice. I was sold, I bought it. They guy said it would be filling and it was! But oh so yummy, especially the tasty simplicity of sushi prepared rice.

So now I am full and home...

Aaaannnd I just got a SMS from Matt saying he's landed safely... but it was (quote) "Worst. Landing. Ever." I'll hafta ring and find out what that means.
