Perry Lakes Stadium

Perry Lakes is located about 7km west of Perth City. It was initially built to host the 1962 Commonwealth Games. It has since hosted countless sporting events and even a Rolling Stones concert in 1995. I recently discovered that the place has actually been closed for a while and is scheduled for demolition, a new housing development will be built on the site. The old wooden seats were starting to rot and the fact that there was very little covered seating made the stadium outdated.

Obviously the fencing doesn't keep everybody out. Graffiti'ists seem to get everywhere.

There was a hill on the other side, where I managed to get a bit of a look inside the stadium from.

I guess this might have been where the officials sat and kept times and things? There is a clock on top of this building.

Hm.. last time I was there was in 2006, it would've been fine if it was maintained but I guess the community had trouble finding the funds.

I got sunstroke there competing in an athletics carnival once. A Very Long Time Ago.

challenge stadium was built just down the road, and it was better to have a new sports area closer to that than fix the old one up

Did you see any points where it's possible to get over/under/around the fence? I'm always game for a bit of urbex if it means good photos!

I only had about half an hour left of my lunch break to take the photos so I didn't look around too closely. Going by the amount of graffiti I'm sure there's an easy way in somewhere.

Had several JTC school carnivals there, until they closed it down because of the asbestos...
