I just realised how many damn theme parks that were in Perth have no closed down.

And how many of them still have some bits remaining.

Good excuses for Sunday drives and photo essays.

Pioneer World
Atlantis Sun City Marine Park
Dizzy Lamb Park
Action Park
Castledare
Castle FUn Park - Mandurah
Lion Park
It's A Small World
Fremantle Crocodile Park
El Caballo Blanco

Still operational (but sometimes looking abandoned)
King's Carnival
Adventure World
Wet & Wild
Ascot Water Playground

Can anyone think of any more?

Perth is hardly an amusement park. ;)

Theme parks just can't compete against video games, I guess.

I know El Caballo Blanco has now been turned into a resort, so isn't run down and interesting to look at. http://www.elcaballo.com.au/

Pioneer village has a cinema there now and crafty type of shops. I think the school still operates from the site.

Urban Speleology is quite popular in the eastern states (eg Cave Clan, Draining groups), but I don't know of any WA groups.

I can't remember any more, but since this is the first time I've ever heard a human being other than my mother mention, "It's A Small World", I'd just like to produce a tiny nostalgic sigh.

Ah, there we go.

Someone already did (http://community.livejournal.com/urban_decay/2055680.html) Ascot water playground...

For the ones still open, there's also Abingdon Miniature Village (http://www.abingdonvillage.com.au/), Hillarys Great Escape (http://www.thegreatescape.com.au/), and Marapana Wildlife World (http://www.marapana.com/) - they seem to have some of the Australia Zoo stuff going on out there.

One for the not-sure-whether-it's-open-or-closed list is the Western Rosella Bird Park on Pinjarra Rd (just past the St John substation, just before the bridge). I thought it had closed years ago, but there are reports floating around it is still going strong...

Can't wait to see more photoessays from you :) Atlantis was awesome - brought back some amazing tweenage and teenage memories for me :)

I see your tiny nostalgic sigh and raise you a mildly disturbed wibble. It was a spooky place.

Wasn't there an Elizabethan World out near Pioneer World?
