The tree I can see out of the office window, the one that gets all green in summer but at the moment is bare, is being chopped down!

Why do people insist on destroying these precious carbon sinks?

there's usually a reason for it, it may not be what we consider a valid reason... :P I suspect our landlord will remove some trees, mainly because of their proximity to power lines and continued requirement to prune them

We demand equal rights for trees! Triffids are people too!

of course you realise its /better/ (carbon-sink-wise) to cut down old trees and plant new ones, right? [old trees are good for animal habitat, =horrible= for carbon. Usually worse for the atmosphere.] New trees absorb far more carbon than they let out. [of course, the problem is if the wood isn't locked into some other form, like a house or table, and instead is burnt or composted]

This is why I'm a big fan of tree farms (though I think the majority should be turned into hemp farms, but thats another story).

I remember when I was on a tour of Fremantle Prison the guide talked about an inmate who had been a model prisoner and because of that he was moved to better accomodation, but after that he started playing up. Turns out he was miserable because he could no longer see a tree from his cell window.
