Today Tonight has a thing on hoarding.

"Hoarding is an obsessive-compulsive disorder. Hoarders should get treatment! Hoarders are content living like that and don't realise what dysfunctional freaks they are!!"

Okay, the people who live in a house that is a fire hazard due to piles of rubbish probably have a problem.

But people who collect? People who display their possessions neatly? People who keep old papers? They're keepers of history, not mental cases. What would happen to that stuff if they didn't have it? That's right, it would probably end up on landfill.

Society has become so damn wasteful that anyone that keeps stuff is considered to have a problem.

I think the people that throw away piles of perfectly good stuff have the problem.

Belinda, its Today Tonight. Its not worth the tv time its got :D. Maybe they are referring to the people who collect lots and lots of random things just to sell at garage sales and swapmeets? I didn't watch it so i don't know.

Mmm... I'm a computer hoarder. I find it very difficult to delete files.

I don't delete "dud" photos off my digital camera.

I think they all have worth.

I know first-hand what happens when you keep 30 years' worth of old newspapers. That makes for a crazy hoarder house. There's "neat" and then there's "let's carefully stack things around the perimeter of all the rooms and watch the house shrink".

(Hi, my name is Sternie and my mum's a crazy hoarder.) I am all for avoiding the landfill, but I think a key part of that is acquiring less stuff in the first place. It's important to distinguish between what's useful/loved/beautiful and what "someone might need someday". The latter is the reason that my parents' basement has about five dining room sets collecting dust.

It was on, I was only vaguely paying attention. WIN had cricket, which sucks even more.

Ignorant those people are. If it weren't for people who hoarded I'm sure important documents and historical items would be buried in some landfill.
