Coming up Clayton Road a motorbike roared past me.

I wish it would have been legal for me to swerve in front of him and clean him up as he was trying to overtake.

"Oh sorry officer, I didn't see him there. I hardly expect to be overtaken when I'm travelling at the speed limit on a ONE LANE ROAD!"

Nice T-bone collision on the corner of Guildford and King William. Looks like a case of someone going straight ahead and someone turning right and at least one party not looking.

On the R1 I would pass people all the time, but for us to pass someone (at least the group I rode with) it took a lot of checking, double-checking, and triple-checking to make sure that we were absolutely clear to do so. Being on a bike is different than being in a car, a LOT different.

depends if it was safe for him to overtake too .... though that's a judgement call I 'aint gonna make. The driver on the bike obviously felt it was safe to do so. and as [livejournal.com profile] azul_demon says, bikes are waaaaaay different than cars.

Oh I'm sure he'd checked and it was safe. That's not the point.

He shouldn't have been overtaking me because he was speeding to do so (and he roared off at at least 80kph - 20k over the limit.)

Yes, and considering we were just in a massive collision because an SUV decided that he wanted to make an illegal left turn as we were coming through an intersection, for me to see someone saying they wish they could have hit someone on a bike is pretty hurtful.

I wish I could clean up anyone on the road who does stupid things.

I don't care what they're driving.

My brother's best friend died because a car turned in front of him. Another friend who was in a coma for 2 days because a semi-trailer ran a red light (minor scratching only) Both bikes were crumpled wrecks. I've had the front wheel of my bicycle driven over once and almost squished by ignorant blind drivers countless times.
Treating every other vehicle on the road as if it is being a blind stupid idiot is not how I want to be on the roads and yet on/in a non-car, it is the only way to survive.

I feel much the same. Even the stupid people I've had almost crunch me, I'd not want to drive over. I wanted a paintball gun to leave tags on their cars. Big red splotches that say 'I'm a stupid driver'

There's doing stupid things and then there's doing stupid things which endanger other people.
The former is fine as it's then Self Darwinism. The latter I'd hurt because it is not just themselves that they can take out.
