Upon us all a little rain must fall...
Feb. 18th, 2004 02:06 amI swear it works. When the sky is threatening to rain but simply refuses to - play The Rain Song by Led Zeppelin.
The air smelled of rain. Thunder rumbled... then it started to sprinkle and I stood outside in the rain.
Stayed out there until the thunder cracks were so loud and the lightning was too close for comfort - I'm sure some sparks a bit away and the power was out in that area so it probably hit a box. When the thunder would crack right above I'd scream and run for cover. Thunder itself is just the sound air makes when it explodes from being superheated. But what thunder heralds - the superheating lightning caused by the simple process of water droplets rubbing against one another and causing static - is actually somewhat dangerous, especially when directly overhead.
Saw a couple of impressive lightning forks running from cloud to cloud, but as usual it was mostly sheet lightning that lit up the entire sky.
Then as soon as it arrived it drifted away. The puddles quickly dried up because the heat never left. I noticed the pungent scent of eucalyptus in the air.
Even though I have washing to do tomorrow - I hope it happens again. :)
