When did "our" get bastardised into "are"?

Are and our sound totally different and mean different things. So why do people do this?

Well, here in the U. S., "our" and "are" are said virtually in the same manner (in fact, there's almost no difference, unless someone overannunciates), so I think that's why. Also, people are just idiots.

I see stupid people.
*sigh*
they' are idiots.
just look at Common english errors
for the quick and dirty on just how often people confuse words.
Some in there just make me realise how thankful I am that I know how to string two words together. and sometimes even make them into coherent sense.

Because people are stupid, or they grew up in an area with a slurred dialect. The southern US is really bad about that sort of stuff.
