Steel drum

gemfyreI have decided I would like to acquire and learn how to play the steel pan drum. You know the type you get in Jamaican bands, that awesome Calypso sound.
I figure it's an instrument I may have a hope of actually learning and I just adore the sound they make (the cello, another instrument I love the sound of, would be way too hard to learn, especially at my age).
One problem is, I have no idea where to get a steel drum, or any idea how much it will cost me. I also don't know if there are any teach yourself/lesson books because there sure ain't a steel pan drum class in Narrogin.
Anyone have any ideas?
