During the world wars, a series of microphones in the ocean was used to track submarines. Now scientists use these microphones to track whales, earthquakes, anything really.

In the (northern hemisphere) summer of 1997 a weird sound was recorded. It sounds biological, but the size of the beast required to make such a sound is immense.

And here's the corker. The sound was recorded around the vicinity that Cthulu's R'yleh is meant to be.

Speeded up 16 times it sounds like a bloop, but in real time it sounds somewhat like a motorbike a distance away getting closer. My conclusion is a pod of whales, farting in unison.
