I'm super tired so this will be a pretty short comment but I think you make some great points. No one in the ASOIAF universe is a perfect "good guy", but I think a lot of people don't understand that. Also RE: Theon and the Stark family, I have noticed that my friends and family who haven't read the books felt more confused by that relationship than book-readers. A lot of show-watchers were confused as to why he suddenly decided to turn against Robb, but in the books it is well-established that he is essentially a prisoner of the Starks to some degree. I think this is the reason a lot of people HATE Theon, because they don't understand his motives properly. He is far from being a good guy, but he's also not just an evil douche bag. I love the ASOIAF series for this reason, because the characters are flawed and aren't just black and white, but are complex ad occasionally self-contradictory like humans are.
