The Tale Of The Clockwork Cat
Jan. 6th, 2003 03:58 pm5am in the morning. On the dot (about the greatest deviation I have noted is 2 minutes). Phantom comes into my room miaowing VERY loudly and stridently. This inevitably wakes me up. If I ignore the miaowing she will go to my wardrobe mirror and tap it incessantly, which REALLY bugs me. By this time I realise I really need to pee anyway so I get up.
Now, I used to think that she was carrying on to be let outside. Which I sometimes do, and sometimes don't. I really don't like her going out before full daylight sets in. She will nip at my ankles all the way downstairs and back up and occaisionally get a light kick. Recently I've been just throwing her over my shoulder where she sits quite contentedly and purrs like mad and can't reach my ankles.

Gratitious photo of Phantom
After the attention I give her, if I just go back to bed she stays quiet and doesn't carry on again. Making me think perhaps she just wants attention, not neccessarily to go outside (the cat door is locked at night - most of the time.
This morning after I went back to bed I heard her tapping at the cat door, not sure if she went out or not (the door had been left unlocked. Unless I lock it myself or yell at my parents to it won't get locked, but they keep flipping out whenever she brings a bird in *rolls eyes*). Last night we noted that she was tapping the door open with her paw but not going through it. This morning I looked closer and yep, she taps it with her paw to make sure it's unlocked, but she can't hold it open with the paw. She will push it with her nose to go through the door. But this morning she gave it a brief push with her nose - not enough to open the door (it has a magnet that keeps it shut when not in use), and then she stopped. Which makes me think her nose is sore in some way. I haven't been able to take a close enough look yet.
So the conclusion is I still don't know if she wakes me up at 5am to go outside or just for cuddles/attention.
Update - mum said a few evenings ago she went under a car then shot out and dashed across the garden the other way. Kinda strange. Mum thinks possibly she was bitten or stung by something. :( My poor Phantom. She seems fine tho, just that she won't push the door with her nose.

Date: 2003-01-06 08:27 am (UTC)Bloody cats. Mine does the same, at around the same time. With Elijah, it's food he wants--I feed them first thing in the morning. Coffee Girl doesn't usually wake me, unless it's in conjunction with Elijah, they seem to like playing chasey in the wee hours.
CG likes to get right up on top of the kitchen cupboards though, and push the cereal down--that's her annoying habit.
Hope Phantom feels better :) CG tends to get weepy eyes, which I have to watch for. I think it's a Burmese thing.
