Now I remember another reason I hate anti-biotics

I have a case of thrush, or at least that's what I reckon it is.

It itches like hell and keeps me awake and uncomfortable.

*eats lots of yoghurt*

Evil anti-biotics, screwing up my gut flora!

At the moment I'm too sterile for my own good. The mouthwash I'm using has chlorohexidine in it (recommended for use only in 2 week blocks, which I adhere to), and the paraderm cream also has chlorohexidine, but it helps the itch a little until I can get something better for it.

I am SO letting my kids eat dirt.

Ask the doc for some Nystatin. Works like a charm on bebes and adults. :D

Never heard of it, wonder if they have it in Oz. What's the name of the drug in it?

Heh, all I need at the moment, MORE pills to pop.

Nystatin is actually the chemical name. It's an antifungal treatment they often use for vaginal or oral thrush-- comes in an oral suspension or as a cream... It's sometimes combined with a steroid for skin infections. I'm sure they'd have it down thar... I know they have it in Germany and UK.

Cool, I will enquire about it. :)

I know exactly what you mean. I fear Tylenol, let alone antibiotics.

It's a good thing I stay away from them, cause I fear yogurt more. ;)

Oh I love yoghurt, so that's no problem. :)

It's great not being tolerant to pain killers. 1 Nurofen every 4 or so hours and I'm right as rain! It's great.

erm... you're not supposed to 'eat' the yoghurt, its supposed to be the natural *bio* stuff with the bacteria-fighting-organisms in it... and you are supposed to apply it to the itchy area :D because the organisms in it kill the infection. Eating it will do nothing for you at all because the organisms in it which do the work won't get into contact with the bacteria.. does that make sense?

Hope you recover soon, theres nothing worse than thrush :(

Eating yoghurt does help replace intestinal flora, but yeah, I'm not sure how much it will do towards the itch.

I don't have any non-flavoured yoghurt around for a direct application. I just had a salt and vinegar bath. I feel like a potato chip.
