I can't show you, I can only tell you. It's up to you to do what you want with it.

That phrase (which I did originally hear from My Fair Lady) is so, so true and required for any relationship.

"Don't your hands long for much touch
If you like me that much -
Show me! Show me! Show me now!"

It's like saying "Yeah, I'll study," and then not studying. It doesn't matter what they say - in the end, what people do is all that matters. It's actions that count every time, not words. So I agree with you very much. Some friends will say to another "Yeah, I'll come spend time with you, I enjoy your company," but that doesn't mean anything to the other person when that friend never actually comes around to visit. I'm a bit guilty of that, I've been so busyfied by all the random things going on lately that I haven't had any time for personal stuff. Which sucks.

Another example: People who think saying "Yeah, of course you're smart, I know that," and then continue to treat you like an idiot are very irritating. Doesn't matter what people say. What they really think always comes out in their actions. I have so many theoretical and real-life situations/events to use as examples, but I should probably go and apply for more jobs, eh...

I counter thy phrase with a quote!

Stop trying to hit me and HIT ME!

And now I can go away and not think about anything.
Yay!

Not that it's completely relevant but this brings to my mind this quote:

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.
Confucius (Attributed to all sorts of people, translated all different ways)
