I also put in one of my half-hearted applications to Oriel's Cafe being totally unqualified and all. Got a call about half an hour later asking for an interview tomorrow. Bizarre. Not like I'll get it, especially now but still that was kinda cool.

hmmm that could be because most of the waiters who go through Oriels are crap - knowing nothing about the meaning of customer service. I have had precisely one good experience at Oriels in the last few years and several bad ones.
but hey, if you make a good waitress it might rub off onto the rest of the staff. That can only be good. and we can come and pester you at work :)
