American Gothic - come mourn with me
I don't watch much TV, I find most shows are pretty crappy and don't hold my interest for long.
But in 1996 there was a show that stood above the rest. That show was American Gothic. A small town in Southern U.S.A., ruled by an evil sherriff and populated by a bizarre mix of characters and one ghost (well one ghost that was a main character).
I ADORED this show. I missed the first episode but watched the other 19 religiously every Wednesday. After it was axed my brother found he had the first eposide on tape, so I watched that and a lot more made sense. I only have the last double episode on tape now though.
I would KILL to have copies of this show on video or a format I can play on the computer. Jared, I will be one of your adoring hordes if you find me AG episodes.
There is a virtual second and third season on line written by fans and it is BRILLIANT!! The weird thing is that in the virtual second season a young (alive) girl was introduced. That was freaky because in my own fanfic follow on _I_ introduced an almost identical character. A Lucas antagonist. The storyline must have been begging for that character for 2 or more people to decide to stick her in a fanfic.
Anyone else absolutely love this show?? Or even like it a bit?? I need fellow mourners.
"Step into my parlour, said the spider to the fly."
"Rack yer balls Ben?"

I used to love watching American Gothic too. I have been living in hope the last few years that maybe Channel 4 will repeat it one day...this still hasn't happened.
I'm not sure, but I have a feeling that it was repeated at a very irregular time slot and at an odd hour on the Sci Fi Channel.
Maybe oneday a TV exec will see the light....?:/
Re:
Here in Australia I have barely any hope, even if I _did_ have pay TV I doubt they'd re-run it here *sobs*.
Oops...

Lucas Buck rocked!
I couldn't beleive it got axed. It really was good and I thought it had a great following.

If you make same lame peice of crap like 'Freinds' which appeals to the majority of people, it gets watched by maybe 50% of tv viewers 10% of the time. So you get 5% of the viewing time slot.
Where as a cult show like Farscape might get watched 100% of the time by the devoted 1% of the viewing public who love it. So you get 1% of the view time slot.
Bottom line is, if you want to attract viewers, your better off producing something that appeals to the lowest commmon denominator. The end result is bland, innofensive television, but it sells.

Kimba the White Lion, Forever Knight, Lost Cities of Gold, VR5. A really really cool vampire show with a name that escapes me at the moment...
Most of my freinds are either a few years younger than me and wouldn't have seen this stuff, or didn't watch much TV as kids.
You know you are getting old when you start getting nostalgic....
Not sure if I remember 'American Gothic'....the name is familiar, but I am probably thinking of the painting.
I never realised it before, but the guy in that painting looks like Binky's father.
Re:
That was shown at the same time as AG after it got axed. Twas an Aaron Spelling show based on the VtM rp game.

It was something I watched in the early nineties.
