The Pope and Condoms

So, apparently the Pope made a statement something like, "It's okay to use condoms if you're a gay man seeing a prostitute to stop the spread of HIV."

So, it's okay to use a device that the Papacy doesn't condone if you're sexually oriented in a way they don't condone and participating in an activity in which they don't condone.

Right.

Not to mention the blantant stereotyping inherent in the sentence.

Whatever.

I really don't think anyone not steeped in the Catholic Church since childhood could truly comprehend how much he truly conceded. It seems so banal to us, but I assure you, the church is roiling in the background.

^this. I don't think any catholic would expect he'd even touch that door...

Hmm... I can think of better ways to stop the spread of HIV than seeing a prostitute. :P

Would it be unfair for me to suggest that another way to put this is:
Gay men are going to hell anyhow, so it won't make a difference if they use condoms.

Yeah, that's about the sentiment I got from it.

From articles I've read this morning it seems he extended this to female prostitutes as well. That's great news.

yeah but pros are virtuous to catholics seeing one of the 7 virtues is chastity... though another is charity so if they are doing it for free, I guess that absolves them...
