Science Fail

Pilfered from an e-mail that landed in my boss's inbox. This is something he subscribes to, but he doesn't seem to read them.

Osteoporosis is an over-treated condition.   What doctors should be looking at is your lack of exposure to the sun and over used sunscreens - in other words - your Vitamin D levels!

Vitamin D is more important than even calcium when it comes to protecting and building bones.  Vitamin D (which is actually a hormone) improves the absorption of calcium and phosphorous, which are essential for healthy bones.  It also helps your muscle co-ordination, improving your strength and balance.

But one of the most critical nutrients is SALT because it converts to CALCIUM in the body, just as occurs on the bottom of the ocean floor when sunlight shines into salt water.  The entire ocean floor is covered in calcium (coral, seashells are ALL calcium).

So don't be fooled that you need more dairy products to provide the nutrients for strong, healthy bones.  Your intake of high quality salt is the #1 most critical nutrient.

In the interests of preventing misinformation, I'm going to dob in the person/organisation spreading this around - it's Don Tolman International

Salt does WHAT??

Oh my. Fail. In so many ways fail.

I mean it does help to regulate calcium in the body (Vitamin D that is) so does help to protect from osteoporosis, but the salt thing is just so out there. Next thing you know they'll be asking for funding for their lead to gold machine.

I doubt it - most of the Pb-Au types are more honest. And less crackpottery.

His entire schtick seems to be a grain of truth surrounded by a load of crap.

Have you seen what he's charging for this mass of information?

Edit: Sorry mass of misinformation

o.O

I...the....there are no words.

Also: high quality salt? I understand this from a taste point of view, but....wait why am I thinking about this, once you think NaCl + sunlight = Ca there's really no point.

Osteoporosis... fine... vitamin D... OK... calcium... er... WTF high quality salt??????

This crap is Australian. Wow. His site says his book will also tell us how to cure (among other things) AIDS and cancer.

I'm confused as to how this site exists. I was under the impression we were supposed to have laws against making bogus health claims.

It has to be reported first...

Possibly! I dropped an email to Queensland Health about it and they said it had been "forwarded to the appropriate area".

Massive doses of Salt, people! the dehydration and slug-like shriveling of your internal organs are just signs that it's working!

Are you sure you should be disclosing that your boss subscribes to this? It doesn't exactly reflect well on him.
